Mount Climbing

Mount Kilimanjaro   |   Mount Meru   |   Mount Oldonyo Lengai

Rising 19,340 ft high, snow capped and wreathed in veils of clouds, stands Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and one of the largest free standing mountains in the world. Our ascent of Kilimanjaro can be considered a trek since the terrain, while steep at times, is covered in trail all the way to the summit. Participants can leave their ice axe and crampons at home- the only ice you will see is the bizarre ice cap that rises abruptly out of the moonscape surrounding the Crater Camp. Accessible to beginning trekker/climbers, Kilimanjaro is a must, taking you through the mists of equatorial jungle to reach the snows and breath-taking views from the summit. If you are on your own, or with just one other person, we will try, as far as possible, to fit you in with another group following the same program as yours. It is however possible, on request, to have your own private trip. Most fit individuals with some mountain walking experience can make it to the top of Africa. You do not need to be super fit - just take it slowly (pole-pole the guide will say) and be determined. East Africa Rekking Ltd is one of the top Kilimanjaro operators with an excellent reputation and a very high success rate. Please do choose the route from the link above.

Mount Climbing

Towering over the town of Arusha, Mount Meru is a key factor to the cultural and agricultural history of this region. Many believe the mountain was once higher than Kilimanjaro before volcanic activity caused an explosion of the peak. Mount Meru is the fifth highest peak in Africa. The climb to the summit is shorter than other climbing programmes offered by our company but it is still a demanding effort. As it is far less traveled than Kilimanjaro, it is often a more intimate experience. The fifth highest mountain in Africa, Mount Meru offers a challenging and interesting climb with an opportunity to view smaller wildlife on a more personal level capturing spectacular views of Meru’s more famous snow-capped cousin – Mount Kilimanjaro

Oldonyo Lengai (3450 meters) is the only active Sodium Carbonite Volcano in the world. The mountain is located on the southern shore of Lake Natron. This impressive peak is revered by the Maasai as the sacred home of God. A nearly perfect cone, it still erupts occasionally and you may have the opportunity to walk on still-steaming new ground. Walking in the African Bush with Maasai Warriors as your guides is a unique opportunity for spectacular game viewing combined with the prospect to experience cultural encounters amongst the Maasai, Datoga, and nomadic Bushmen. This trip will take you to Lake Natron to view the flamingo breeding centre as well as taking you to the summit of this amazing volcano. The trip is perfect to be taken either before or after a Kilimanjaro Climb.
